Description

Job Objective: The Addiction Psychiatrist will evaluate medical and psychosocial conditions; develop and implement treatment plans, including prescription of psychotropic medications; monitoring and evaluating treatment results.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties:
• Evaluate patients by interviewing patients, family, and other persons; conducting physical examinations; observing behaviors; reviewing medical history and related documents; selecting, administering, and interpreting psychological tests; ordering laboratory tests; and evaluating results.
• Develops treatment plans by determining the nature and extent of cognitive, emotional, developmental, social, and behavioral disorders; establishes treatment goals and methodologies.
• Treats patients by utilizing psychotherapeutic methods and medications; discussing progress towards goals with patients; providing instructions; monitoring the effect of medications; supervising staff provision of services.
• Maintains interdisciplinary treatment by reviewing treatment plans and progress; consulting and collaborating with primary care physicians, mental health therapists, nurses, and other health care providers.
• Improves staff competence by providing training and discussions regarding the interrelationship between psychosocial and physiological problems, psychotropic medications, crisis intervention, and related issues.
• Maintains historical records by documenting symptoms, medications, and treatment events; writes summaries.
• Teach, take continuing education classes, attend conferences or seminars, or conduct research and publish findings to increase understanding of mental, emotional, or behavioral states or disorders.
• Prepare and submit case reports or summaries to the government or mental health agencies.
• Provide the collaborative documentation for service delivery, including treatment goals, progress notes, and billing, and submit said documentation as specified by set standards. Maintains complete and accurate records and reports regarding patients' histories and progress, services provided, and other required information.
• Promotes positive inter-department cooperation. Willingly participates in applicable committees or task forces and demonstrates positive behavior in identifying and resolving complex or out-of-policy operation problems.
• Telemedicine services will be provided by licensed and credentialed behavioral health providers who are full/part-time employees or have a current contract with Community Care of West Virginia, Inc. The clinical care will be provided within the scope of their license.
• Other projects and duties as assigned.

• Assist patients, family members, or other clients with concern and empathy; respect their confidentiality and privacy; and communicate with them in a courteous and respectful manner.
• Answer and refer telephone calls or other inquires to ensure accurate and timely communications are facilitated.

• Assist in the orientation/training of new members of the care team.

• Demonstrate sound judgment by taking appropriate actions regarding questionable findings or concerns.
• Investigate and follow through on unusual orders or requests for service or information.
• Follow proper reporting procedures for actual or potential accidents and/or incidents so follow-up and/or prevention can occur.
• Record/report the need for service maintenance or repair of equipment and remove any faulty equipment from service.
• Consistently evaluate work and determine if further steps are needed to meet patient expectations.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

• Consistently demonstrate the ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary.
• Minimize non-productive time and fill slow periods with activities that will enable you to prepare to meet the department's future needs.
• Organize job functions and work areas to be able to complete varied assignments within established time frames effectively.
• Consistently demonstrate the ability to take the initiative to make decisions/choices without direct supervision.

Qualifications


Physical Demands/Working Environment:
• Work is performed in a professional medical office setting, business casual dress environment.
• Extended periods of sitting and/or standing telephone and computer work.
• Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
• The job requires standing, walking, hearing, reaching, talking, and occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
• Incumbents will be exposed to viruses, disease, and infection from patients and specimens in the working environment.
• The incumbent will be required to work at any facility and be responsible for their own transportation. Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
• Incumbents may experience traumatic situations, including psychiatric, dismembered, and deceased patients.

Qualifications/Requirements/Skills:
• Board-certified or board-eligible in addiction psychiatry.
• DEA certificate and WV Controlled Substances registration.
• Must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening and fingerprint national background check.
• Must possess or be willing to obtain a DATA 2000/Buprenorphine Waiver
• Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication skills, the ability to engage with varying patient populations.
• Ability to lead group presentations in professional settings using scientific data.
• Must be flexible and adaptable to change. Demonstrate the ability to work independently, as well as collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and health care providers. Advocate for patients within medical community settings.

Education/Training/Experience:
• Medical degree from an accredited school and licensed to practice in West Virginia.
• Fellowship in addiction medicine
• Two (2) years of experience working with both mental health illnesses and substance use disorders, preferred.
• Experience working directly with individuals who have chemical dependencies is highly preferred.
• Experience with Motivational Interviewing, Self-Management, and Patient Engagement strategies.
• Experience with Medicare and Medicaid population, insurance providers, and telephonic engagement.
• Demonstrated experience in working with an underserved population.
• Demonstrated ability in group therapy, group management, individual therapy, and family counseling.
